Game Assignments

The DWMHA strives to provide the highest level of officiating possible.

AVAILABILITY
Officials are required to submit their availability every 2-weeks to the assignor, in the prescribed format. If no availability is received prior to the submission deadline, the assignor’s “default position” will be that the official is not available and will not be given any assignments for that period.

SCHEDULING
Every 2-weeks (in accordance with the established periods), assignments will be circulated to all officials by electronic mail. Officials will have 48-hours to confirm games.

CONFLICTS
If an official is unable to fulfil an assignment, it is the responsibility of that official to find a replacement who is qualified to officiate the game(s). If the official is unsure if another official is capable of working a particular level of hockey, contact the assignor.

When games are given away or traded among officials, BOTH officials must contact the assignor (by phone or e-mail) immediately to confirm the change. This will ensure confirmation of the date, time, rink, level of hockey, etc. and guarantee the assignor’s records are kept accurate for the purposes of game cancellations/changes, payment, supervision and future scheduling.

Officials are NOT permitted to give a Referee assignment to an official who is only capable of working as a Linesman at that level, without prior approval from the assignor.

Officials are NOT permitted to give any assignment to an official who has never worked that level of hockey before, without prior approval from the assignor.

Officials are NOT permitted to work more then 3-hours in a row and/or 4-hours in one day without prior approval from the assignor.

PAYMENT
Officials will be paid by direct deposit (bank account) on a monthly basis. We strive to have the pay in the bank by the 15th of the following month (i.e September pay, in bank by October 15).  If an official recognizes an error on the summary, contact the assignor. Officials will be paid in cash for all exhibition games, prior to the game (by the Home Team).

PROMPTNESS
It is each official's responsibility to ensure they are at the rink no later then 20-minutes prior to the scheduled start of the game.

In the event an official is running late and will be arriving after the 20-minute deadline, it is that official’s responsibility to contact the game officials through cell phone communications or other advance notification.

NOTES
Officials should not accept any Minor Hockey assignments from anyone except the designated assignor. If a team official contacts an official regarding any minor hockey game, refer them to the assignor.
